York St. Gallery Exhibition: Photography & Installation
Preparation & Opening Night for the "In Pursuit Of An Authentic Life" Photography Exhibition & Experiential Installation at the York St. Gallery in Newport Kentucky.
This photo essay takes you through the design, layout and set up of the exhibit as well as photographs from Opening Night.
The exhibition & experiential installation took over two weeks to create & construct; all of the photographs were enlarged, matted and hung from the ceiling on custom poles & wires that all had to be created from scratch - over 100 separate suspensions, with 2 - 4 wires per suspension. 1' X 1.5' clear acrylic pieces were used to feature song lyrics suspended from the ceiling in front of the photographs to create a three dimensional effect while highlighting the story behind the song.
The exhibition & installation was separated into three sections:
1. Photographs that told the story behind the songs of the "In Pursuit Of An Authentic Life" recordings.
2. Photographs for the recording studio (Harmonium Studios) where the songs were recorded in Western, MA. Listening stations (made out of portable CD players from the 80's) were also created so that the attendees would be able to listen to the music. The intent was to make the exhibition attendees feel as though they were actually in the recording studio.
3. Photographs that highlighted the band's preparation & rehearsal for the live show premiere of "In Pursuit Of An Authentic Life."
The exhibition was a huge success with over 100 people attending throughout the evening.

In Pursuit Of An Authentic Life - The Story That Inspired The Music
“In Pursuit Of An Authentic Life” chronicles a four-year period of my life that was filled with dramatic change and transition… I was unprepared for the emotions, the uncertainly and the experiences that would come from following my heart & being on my own.
It begins with the end of a long-term relationship, an affair of the heart, a whirlwind of emotions & career uncertainty that bottoms out with me asking myself, “what is left to accomplish?”
A trip to Singapore & Malaysia fills me with renewed sense of optimism and humility… with a new job, I move to a new place & dear friends remind me why life is such a gift. I will be forever grateful for their love, patience and time.
My weekends become filled with birds of all shapes and colors. I have countless adventures with one of my best friend’s that take us to incredibly beautiful, remote places… Nicaragua, the Mexican & Canadian borders & well over 1,000 different locations up & down the East Coast. I have never felt more connected to the world around me or to understanding who I am… Such joy & appreciation for life’s rich pageantry and the universal spirit.
I borrow a guitar from a friend & flip it upside down - a new instrument for me; channel my raw emotions and write songs… over 40 different versions in all… I get the courage to sing + play in a recording studio… and end up spending 18 months with one of my best friend’s creating songs for what will become, “In Pursuit of an Authentic Life.” One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life… music has given me so much happiness.
I meet a very special woman that will eventually change my life… spend a summer as a nomad with no address; living in different places hanging out with friends, finishing my music project & traveling to Singapore, Cambodia & Vietnam with my brother… and eventually move to Cincinnati OH.
I have come to trust that the universe has a way of giving you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. You just need to pay attention, trust and act.
