My Quixotic Adventures to Have a Conversation with God

Talking about God can be a very complicated and sensitive discussion to have with others. Even talking with myself, I’ve made it complicated over the years. At times, I even had trouble calling God, God.

Depending on my perspective at the time, when someone asked, “Do you believe in God? I might have said, “Well, I believe in a Universal Spirit, or Great Spirit, or Cosmic Consciousness, or Conscious Universe, or Divine Presence,” or whatever other “spiritual” name I came up with. As long as it wasn’t God. Somehow, I felt that if I said the word God, it would sound too religious or too traditional or somehow in my mind, it even conjured up something less progressive than I wanted to be…

These days I’m beyond all that. When someone asks, I simply say, “yes, I believe in God.” If they choose to ask me a follow up question, that’s when the conversation gets interesting…

More importantly, for much of my life, I have looked for ways to have direct interactions/conversations with God. And when I say I’ve looked for ways to experience God directly, I mean firsthand. Personally. 1:1, me + GOD. Like, I ask a question and I honestly expect an answer.

At times I’ve looked to religious intervention or required some other assistance. At other times, I’ve tried more esoteric, less traditional routes. And other times, it’s just me and my own discovery process.

Here is a list of some of my direct, personal experiences I have tried in my adventure to experience God throughout my life:

·       Catholic Altar Boy

·       Crystal Healing Training

·       Astral Projection exercises

·       Native American Vision Quests

·       Native American Ceremonies

·       Psychic Readings

·       Past Life Regression Readings

·       Certified Reiki Training

·       Nature walks

·       Birdwatching

·       A visit to an Indian temple

·       Visits to Buddhist temples

·       Experiences with shamans

·       “Visualizing” my Akashic Record

·       Zen practice / meditation experience

·       Daily morning prayer sessions

·       Daily evening mediation sessions

·       Daily conversations with God

·       In dreams

·       Through daily coincidences and synchronicities

Through all this, I’ve had 1,000’s of experiences, big & small, in all kinds of ways, and I can say, without a doubt, God responds. At least the way I define God. Neale Donald Walsh was right. Turns out you can indeed have ongoing, Conversations with God; you just have to express interest and start the conversation.

Questions have also been part of my process, where I’ve asked myself, my family members and friends a variety of questions about God and their beliefs throughout my life. Things like:

· Does God exist?

My answer over time has been yes, maybe, no & absolutely yes…

· How do I know God exists?

Over the years, I have changed my perspective and response to this question. And why I wonder, at certain times in my life, did I feel the need to “prove” God exists in the first place?

· Why does it matter if I or anyone believe that God exists? Each one of us has our own journey.

· What practical purpose does the idea of God serve in our everyday lives?

· Why does “God” allow suffering or “evil acts”?

I think we’re missing the point as human beings. There is something much larger at work. Why do we look to God to solve all of our problems, many of which are caused by us and can be solved by us, if we simply take responsibility for our beliefs and actions.

Eventually, I just started asking God the same ones.

All of these direct experiences, external & internal. All of these questions, conversations and self-reflection on God, with God. The result? I can now say, I have daily experiences with God.

And this, has become my 4th north star.

God is life itself. God is our living energy, the soul, the consciousness in all things.

God is our every breath; God is every thought; God is every moment.

God is everywhere, in every living thing, all the time, at the same time.

God is the essence of existence.

Everything and everyone is one with God and God is one with us.

Therefore, we are all one with one another & everything.

We all come from the same Source, where we all return.

God is Love & therefore, we are Love.
